Already in possession of a diploma in Graphic Arts (George Brown College, 1988), Jeffrey A’Hearn went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in English and Drama, with Minors in Classical Literature and Japanese Language (University of Toronto, 1995).
Jeffrey has taught English, Art, and Acting all over the globe, including in Japan, Australia, Germany, England, the United States, Venezuela, and Canada. He has worked in graphic design, and has illustrated and designed interiors in Australia, Mexico, and the United States, including set design for television and theatre in Canada, where he has maintained a base. Magazine and television copy writing occupied Jeff for a time, while he also worked on his third series of greeting cards, which are distributed and sold in several countries.
As co-owner and curator of Purgatory, a design cooperative (1997-2002), Jeffrey created a beautiful atelier where artists could work and exhibit their art.
On behalf of the Ontario Arts Council, Jeffrey proudly presented a K.M. Hunter Foundation award for Visual Arts (2005).
In January 2006, by personal invitation of Ms. Sharmini Peries, Advisor to President Chavez, Jeffrey attended the World Social Forum in Caracas, Venezuela to discuss the inspiration and intention behind his mixed media art project ‘Don’t Drive By’.
Jeffrey’s ‘Don’t Drive By’ project is a collaboration of high-risk youth on the brink of adulthood and of the victims of gun crimes. This ambitious effort is a fusion of Jeff’s desire to provide opportunity to disadvantaged youth by generating funds to support Art Education programs, while aiding the victims of gun crime through charitable contributions.
In July 2006, Jeffrey was invited to teach Art at the World Scholar Athlete Games [WSAG] at the University of Rhode Island by the Institute for International Sport, taking the role of Cultural Program Instructor. Together with a mix of students from the 157 countries in attendance at WSAG, Jeffrey painted four large oils on canvas and then donated the paintings to be auctioned off, financially benefiting students who qualified—but could not afford—to attend the World Scholar Athlete Games in Brisbane, Australia in 2008.
For the past 20 years, Jeffrey has been painting and selling oils internationally. He is working on his fifth series of ‘Botanicals’; his first series showed at the Burston Gallery in Toronto (2004), with subsequent series at the Queen West Art Crawl (2005). His fourth and fifth series of ‘Botanicals’ were on display at the Todmorden Mills Heritage Site, Toronto (2006-2007).
A decade in the making, Jeffrey is seeking to show his impressive series of diptychs entitled ‘Pantheon of the Gods’, which debuted at the Todmorden Hills Heritage Site (2009).
Images from this series are currently part of the mixed media production HOPE ON ICE, which opened in May, 2009 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
